Lucy Isabelle Marsh was my grandmother, also. I have memories of her giving voice lessons in the "music room" of my grandparents' house, and of my dad
...
singing "Danny Boy" with her. I didn't realize until a couple of years ago that there were people out there who were interested in her work, and who had collected her music. It's been wonderful to hear from some of those people, who have been kind enough to send me recordings and other information about her. I'd love to hear more. I was only 10 when she died (after being ill for several years), and at that time in my life I didn't realize how much we'd value knowing about her in the future.

I like these recordings, and would like to know more about Lucy Isabelle Marsh. Perhaps her granddaughter should put some kind of website together?

Subject: Lucy Isabelle Marsh: Italian Street Song
Subject: Lucy Isabelle Marsh: Italian Street Song
Billy Murray once said that Lucy Isabelle Marsh had the voice of an angel. Her recordings are valuable jewels to collectors. She has a beautiful voice.
...
It was the Italian Street Song, from Naughty Marietta, which first introduced me to Lucy Marsh in college. The song was featured in a three LP collection of early Victor Herbert recordings. I have since collected her recordings on disc and CDs. This recording of Italian Street song was actually recorded in December, 1910. It is almost like hearing the performance on stage in 1910. Lucy sings the first few bars, then is joined by the chours, then she sings with the chorus. The closing of the recording is almost as if hearing the performance on stage, with play-off music. Lucy Isabelle Marsh was primarily a studio recording artist, making hundreds of recordings for Victor. She performed once in Schnectady, NY in a recital and in a performance of Parsifal at the Met, but primarily in the recording studios. Collectors like myself, certainly love Lucy!
